Here is a quick reference list of terms that are relevant not just to the benefits and features of the Hey Dude Skin Care series of products, but are useful to any Dude who wants to be even savvier about the health of his skin. And if you're trying to pick up girls, throwing around skincare terms is pretty sexy, Dudes. She'll know instantly that you have your grooming act together...

Acne: A chronic ailment of the hair follicles and sebaceous (oil) glands. Non-inflammatory acne includes blackheads and whiteheads.  Inflammatory acne is characterized by red and inflamed papules, pustules, cysts and nodules. Scarring of the skin can result from these breakouts. The ingredients in Hey Dude Skin Care's core shaving products provide a great means of avoiding breakouts by balancing the skin's oil production and providing the right level of moisture to protect the skin. With high quality ingredients like Tea Tree Oil found in Dude Aftershave Gel, a Dude can help alleviate any case of moderate acne he might be already experiencing.

Acne Rosacea: Acne-like appearance characterized by redness, sensitivity, irritation and flushing centralized on the middle of the face, particularly on the nose and across the cheeks.

Collagen: Complex protein that form the elastic fibers which provide skin with its structural support.  As men and women age, it's vital that they use external sources that help maintain a healthy level of collagen to minimize wrinkles and other visible sources of aging. While young Dudes generally don't have issues with the elasticity of their skin, today's savvy Dude knows he needs to address his skincare concerns way in advance of the first signs of aging.

Cyst: Small, yellowish-tan to skin colored, firm round masses just beneath the skin. These can enlarge slowly and when infected can result in scarring. Cysts can be exacerbated by acne.

Dermis: A layer of the skin directly beneath the outer epidermis, composed of critical components such as collagen (providing strength) and elastin (providing elasticity).

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA): FDA-approved organic compound that is the primary skin tanning agent found in the Dude Self Tanner with SPF15. Along with another sunless tanning ingredient, Erythulose, DHA forms the basis of a safe, sunless tan that gives a Dude a healthy color that also provides SPF protection against UVA and UVB rays when outdoors.

Dry Skin: Skin that lacks balanced, natural oil production and other sources of moisture.  It's also a sign that insufficient water intake is an issue. Dudes – drink lots of water!

Dudification: As the Urban Dictionary states:

Eczema: An inflammation of the epidermis, the outermost skin layer. In mild forms the skin is dry, hot and itchy.  In more severe forms, the skin can become broken, raw and bleeding. There is currently no known cause or cure for the condition.

Elastin: A natural protein that forms fibers within the skin's dermis, similar to collagen, giving support and "snap" to the skin. It's what keeps a Dude looking like a Dude!

Emollient: An ingredient that is normally contained within a moisturizer for the skin.  They are compounds designed to maintain the correct balance of water and other important factors affecting the skin's youthful appearance. Hey Dude Skin Care uses many such emollients in its products, such as Linoleic Acid found in Dude Moisturizer.

Epidermis: The outermost layer of the skin, contains sebaceous glands and nerve endings.

Ethylhexylglycerin: A natural, organic preservative derived from vegetables. It is found in several Hey Dude Skin Care products, including Dude Cleansing Shave Gel, Dude Aftershave Gel, and Dude Wash.

Exfoliation: The chemical or mechanical removal of dead or non-functioning skin cells.  This process also aids in improving circulation through stimulating blood flow. Dudes who use Dude Scrub by Hey Dude Skin Care before shaving love its fresh, citrus scent and texture offered by natural volcanic pumice. This is exfoliation at its finest!

Folliculitis: Skin condition also known as "ingrown hairs" or by its other medical term, "pseudofolliculitis barbae." They are painful, cystic bumps, with hair getting trapped in the follicle. Regular use of Hey Dude Skin Care products will help condition the skin and provide a smoother surface for a razor to shave the skin correctly and with less irritation that can cause these bumps.
